Love to Laugh

Richie took June shopping last Saturday. This video was shot in the car while they were taking a feeding break. Junie loves to laugh with her dad.

A Junebug Christmas

I must admit, I am SUPER excited about our first Christmas with a little one.  For some reason Christmas seems so much more magical with kids around.  And even though June is still too young to understand what's going on, we're so happy to be able to celebrate Christmas with her.

Little Chic

We had a little Chic-fil-A tonight and June was having lots of fun sitting at the table. She thinks she's people.

Can't Stop 'til You Get Enough

June loves to dance and listen to music.  She just can't get enough.

Our Cutest Halloween Yet

I won't junk up this post with a bunch of text.  The pictures say it all.  We love our little Junebug who seems to enjoy Halloween.  On Monday we went to a pumpkin patch to pick out some pumpkins.

Tonight we went Trick-or-Treating at Aunt Jami's house.  Lola the geisha dog was also there to greet us.

And Early Halloween

Here are some early Halloween pictures of June as a junebug.  We'll take more pictures this week, but here's one taken just before we left to go to our ward party.  June was super cute.

Just Before Bed

Richie has been introducing June to his favorite music.  Tonight he was singing her some Pete Yorn just before bedtime.  She thought it was fantastic.

She Keeps Getting Bigger

Here are some random pictures from the past few weeks.  June will turn 3 months old on Wednesday and we can't believe how quickly the time has flown by.
June loves music and if often listening to Pandora Radio on our iPad.
Sleeping in her Jump-a-Roo -- she wore herself out.
This kid would gnaw off her hand if she could.
Learning to be a hipster at an early age.

Out on a Stroll

Ever since June was born, the weather has been super hot -- like in the 90s or 100s nearly every day since mid July.  So we were so excited this last week when we finally got some fall-like weather.  It was cool and even rained one day.  The morning after the rain, June and I enjoyed the cool temps and bundled up for a walk.  Too bad this week it's supposed to reach almost 100 degrees again.  Maybe she'll be able to bundle up again sometime in November.

Driving Home

So we took a little trip this past weekend and had a great time. June is a pretty good traveler -- so great that we decided to give her a shot behind the wheel. She did pretty well for a baby. She does veer a bit to the right but we're working on that.

Two Months with Junebug

Two months ago today June joined our family and every day we love her more and more.  She is eating a lot and growing even more.  She is curious and loves to hold her head up so she can discover her new world.  She smiles a lot and is beginning to laugh and babble.  Our little Junebug is happiest when she is moving around, being talked to exploring new places.  We love our little girl and look forward watching her grow up.

Her First Dip in the Pool

We took June swimming tonight for the first time and she loved the water.  Seriously, how cute are those little legs?

June Settles In

June turns three weeks old today and we can't believe how fast she is growing.  We were very fortunate to have both grandmas spend a week each with us after June's birth.  They were both a huge help and we were sad to see them go.
Loving Grandma Bristow
Giving Grandma Stahr a big hug.

June loves to have interesting conversations with her dad.  Her newborn skin was peeling the first few weeks and Richie explained to her that it's because she was getting her earth skin.  June is now breathing earth air and enjoying her earth skin.
June's first bath.  She loved the water and was very calm the whole time.

Our Sweet June

Here are some more pictures of our little Junebug.  She turns two weeks old today and is already starting to look so much bigger.
June likes to have conversations with her dad.  They talk about just about everything, but June especially likes to discuss her long hard days of eating, sleeping, and eating some more.
Yesterday at her 2 month check-up, our little girl had gained a little more than a pound and grown 1.5 inches since her birth.  I guess you could say she's eating well.  A fat baby is a happy baby and June is definitely content most of the time.

Our New Baby Girl

Just wanted to post a quick picture of our new baby girl. We love her so much! June Isabella was born July 17th at 7:32 a.m.

Peaches in the Summertime

It's summer time and getting hot here in Southern California.  Instead of posting about how miserable I am in my last few weeks of pregnancy, I think today perhaps I'll write about a good summer memory and try to focus on that instead of my discomfort.

We've been eating a lot of simple meals lately -- avocado on bread, fruit and cheese.  You know, the kind of meal you can only enjoy in the summer because the produce is so luscious and perfectly ripe. Today I had a peach and as I was enjoying it's sweetness, I was reminded of my childhood when my mom used to buy peaches by the bushel.  She would get boxes and boxes of peaches from a local farm and most of them weren't quite ripe yet.  So she would cover the floor of our garage with newspaper and lay out the peaches in a single layer to allow them to ripen to soft perfection.  Then she would spend days canning fruit and making jam.

She would also preserve pears, apples, berries, corn, tomatoes, cherries, grapes and anything else she could get her hands on.  But peach time was always my favorite.  I would sneak into the garage, steal the best looking peach and sit on a fruit box, biting into the soft yellow flesh while leaning over so that the sweet peach juice would drip off my chin onto the garage floor and not down the front of my shirt.

Summertime as a kid seemed so simple and perfect. I loved playing outside until dinner time, eating popsicles in the shade, running through the sprinkler, going to the county fair, shucking corn on the cob for dinner, picking berries and making jam, going camping with the family and so much more.  I am looking forward to enjoying summers with our children and making memories of our own.  Hurry and come little one so we can start enjoying summer together!

We're Getting Ready

It's been an eventful week in our little family.  Last Saturday was my baby shower and I had so much fun!  Richie's sister Jami threw a great party -- there was a lot of delicious food, and at my request, no games (hooray!).  It was nice to just relax with friends and family and I received some really cute gifts too.  I think a baby shower is one of the final steps in mentally preparing for the baby and it was great to talk with other moms about what to expect.
Richie's mom and three of his sisters came: from left, Kari, Diane, me, Jami and Andi.
We also got to physically prepare this week as we had some medical excitement again with a little trip to the hospital.  I was in a lot of pain and the general consensus was that I probably passed a kidney stone.  I guess it was a good preview for what I'm about to experience in labor.  I now feel like if I can endure the passing of a kidney stone, I can probably survive the pains of labor.  We had a good dress rehearsal this week so we're ready.  Just 4 more weeks until my due date.

Ahhh ... the pool

I'm posting these pictures of our pool so that one day I can remember back to the first time I was pregnant and I spent hours and hours in the pool.  Sometimes I swim laps, sometimes I make up dorky water aerobics exercies, sometimes Richie joins me and we recap the day and on occasion I'll invite a friend or two to keep me company.  No matter how I rule the pool, it's nice to get some relief from my back pain and the summer heat.  Every day I am grateful for the pool.

Grateful for Dad

Today we take some time to reflect on our dads.  As Richie and I are about to become parents, we are grateful for our fathers and the good examples they have set for us.  As you can see in the pictures below, both our dads, Steve and Kenny, look happy to be with their kids and to this day, both seem happiest when they are surrounded by their families.  Happy Father's Day!

This picture was taken on my 1st birthday and I think we were somewhere in Utah.  My mom says she always kept a bandana on my head because I didn't have hair until I was 2 years old.

Here Richie is about 3 and a half and is with his dad at a company picnic (yes I cropped out Colonel Sanders).  Even at a young age Richie detested having his picture taken.

Happy Birthday Aunt Sheila

My Aunt Sheila and I share the same birthday and today she hits a big milestone.  We wish we could be in Portland for her party and wish her well.  For the big night, My mom asked everyone to share a favorite memory of Sheila and below is one of mine.

When I was younger she invited my siblings and me over to her house for the evening.  We went out to pizza and I think we all ate more slices that we should have.  Then after dinner we went to the grocery store by her house and she let us pick out any ice cream and all the toppings we wanted.

We were so excited to eat amazing ice cream sundaes, but when we finally got back to her house the pizza had settled and we were uncomfortably full.  We reluctantly told Sheila that we were too full to eat ice cream, which I remember being really sad about.  Fancy ice cream sundaes with all the fixings were not a frequent treat at our house and we truly felt spoiled by our aunt that night.  But we were just too full to eat any more.

That didn’t seem to matter to Sheila because she proceeded to force us to eat the ice cream.  She probably spent like $50 on ice cream and toppings and she was going to make sure that we had fun and enjoyed the yummy dessert.  We were told we had to eat the ice cream.  I remember we all protested, but she kindly told us that we couldn’t leave until we ate some.  Most kids are forced to eat broccoli or Brussels sprouts, but that night our aunt made us sit at the table until we ate our ice cream.

Kicking Like a Champ

Don't freak out mom.  The baby is fine.  I'm fine.   The baby just took a little break from kicking most of the day yesterday and I started to get a little worried.  So we took a little field trip to the hospital last night to check things out.  Not long after I got all hooked up, our little one kicked and then kicked some more.  The doctor also ordered an ultrasound so we got to see our baby, super cute and moving around.

So here's a little cell phone pic of last night's excitement. We were happy everything was fine.

A New Start

So, we're back.  Where have we been?  Oh, you know.  Around.  Maybe we've been a little lazy, not taking pictures to share or wanting to take the time to sum up all our activities.  Or maybe we've had less to share.  Life gets busy and not everything is super interesting or blog worthy.  Needless to say, we're going to forget the past year and a half of non-blogging and just move forward.  And, we're about to have something really interesting to blog about.  We're having a baby!  Most of you probably already knew that, but we thought we'd publish the big news to make it official.  Little Baby Bristow is due July 23rd.  Only about 7 weeks to go.
